Dr. Justin Warcup of North Texas Smiles is pleased to add the LightScalpel® CO2 laser to our collection of advanced dental equipment designed to give your child a more comfortable dental experience. Our dentist can use this tool to safely and efficiently perform a variety of treatments, including a frenectomy. By using the LightScalpel CO2 laser in Fort Worth, Texas, we can also help you child feel more comfortable about their treatment. We welcome you to learn more, and to schedule your child’s appointment with our pediatric dentist by calling us today at 817-732-9341.
At our practice, we understand that many children experience fear or anxiety when visiting the dentist, especially when they require a treatment other than their routine cleaning. We also understand that parents want to protect their child from any unnecessary pain or discomfort. For these reasons and more, our dentist is proud to use the LightScalpel CO2 laser.
With highly concentrated beams of light, we can easily and accurately target specific areas where treatment is required, and we can perform these procedures in a more comfortable manner. Some of the treatments that involve the LightScapel CO2 laser include:
- Frenectomy: this procedure involves removing the frenum (small piece of tissue) from underneath the tongue or upper lip to increase the range of motion. With the LightScalpel, we can “vaporize” the tissue instead of cutting it. This is a much more comfortable option that results in minimal bleeding, no stitches, and less chance of relapse.
- Gingivectomy: if you child has developed gum disease, we can perform a laser gingivectomy to remove damaged tissue and reduce pocket size, thus slowing down the progression of the disease. With our laser, we can remove only damaged tissue while leaving the healthy tissue untouched. Highly-concentrated laser beams also destroy harmful bacteria, slowing the progression even further. Lasers often provide virtually painless treatments, especially because they require no incisions and no lengthy recovery.
- Gum Recontouring: teeth that appear too short may be a result of excess gum tissue. If your child wishes to change their smile’s appearance, we can remove the excess gum and redefine the gum line across the teeth, making the teeth appear longer. With our laser, we can carefully and accurately remove excess tissue, resulting in an exact and natural-looking new gum line.
- Operculectomy: an operculectomy is a procedure that removes a small flap of skin that covers a tooth, particularly a back molar or impacted tooth. Because the LightScalpel CO2 laser is so precise, it can remove the excess tissue without damaging the tooth or the surrounding tissue. Plus, lasers promote the clotting process during treatment, resulting in a more comfortable procedure and recovery.
Using a dental laser as part of these and other treatments allows our pediatric dentist to provide more comfortable and efficient treatments with minimal bleeding, no stitches, and significantly shorter recovery times. We constantly strive to give our patients care that will help them build a strong, trusted relationship with the dentist, as well as help them continue to feel confident about their smile. The LightScalpel CO2 dental laser is one way that we can accomplish these goals.
